If you could travel through time, who would you want to meet? Lucas Finnigan eats, sleeps and breathes hockey. With his friends Edge, Swift and Crunch, Lucas plays on his hometown’s rink, dreaming of the day when he knows he’ll make the NHL. But lately money has been tight at home, and, after a major growth spurt, Lucas is forced to wear hand-me-down gear that doesn’t quite fit. Now he’s not sure he’ll ever make it to the Hall of Fame like his hockey heroes. And that’s not the only problem. With the community arena’s chiller on the fritz, and replacement parts too tough to come by, it looks like Lucas and his friends may be doomed to a season on a plastic rink—or worse, to no hockey at all! But with a magical discovery, and some help from one of hockey’s greatest players (who was a kid once, too!), their final skate might turn into their first great adventure . . .

Along the way, the Chips have learned about perseverance, sportsmanship and a true love of the game. But when a local tournament requires the Chips to split up to help form a district-wide all-girls hockey team, goalie Swift refuses to join forces with Chips rival Beatrice Blitz. The only thing left to do is to time travel once again. Pretty soon the Chips find themselves smack in the middle of the Calgary Olympics, with a determined young player known as Chicken in desperate need of some new teammates. Lucas, Swift and Swift’s sister Sadie have just the spirit Chicken’s team needs, and with a lesson from their dedicated new friend—who’ll go on to become one of Canada’s best-loved Olympic hockey players, Hayley Wickenheiser—they just might change their minds about the game back home. He's the face of the Calgary Flames, but there's much more to Jarome Iginla's story than just being the first black captain of an NHL team. He's also renowned for his social commitment and generosity off the ice. Jarome (nicknamed Iggy) grew up in a single-parent household in St. Albert, Alberta. It was thanks to support of his grandparents that he started to play hockey. His hard work paid off and, in 1996, at the age of 18, Iggy was drafted into the NHL. He went on to become a multiple-award-winning hockey player and two-time Olympic champion. But he never forgot his struggles in his rise to hockey stardom. Today, Iginla plays an important role for many young hockey-loving Canadians by working to ensure that the sport is open to committed players of all backgrounds. [Fry Reading Level - 5.0

Hockey is a relatively new sport in Canada's North. It wasn't until 2003 that Jordin Kudluk "Thunder" Tootoo became the first Inuk to play in an NHL game. Although hockey is a rough sport to begin with, Jordin Tootoo is known for having to "fight his way through." Jordin has had more than his fair share of fights both on and off the ice. He's had to overcome the social problems that are associated with the North, fight his way through the discrimination and culture shock he encountered after leaving Rankin Inlet and moving to Alberta to play in the Juniors, and see his way through the grief of losing his NHL bound older brother and hero, Terence Tootoo, to suicide in 2002. This new, updated biography explores the struggles and accomplishments of the most recognized role model for young Aboriginal and Inuit people today.
